To say that life has been a bit challenging these past three years is an understatement. I didn’t expect my world to be turned upside down due to a tiny insect bite that I never even saw. But goodness has come out of this. Illness creates a tremendous sense of gratitude; both for the supportive people in your life and for the bright moments and days. Even on the hard days I feel so grateful.
.
One of the biggest reasons for my gratitude is this guy pictured here. We’ve been together for ages and he’s seen me healthy and unhealthy, at my lowest and highest and everything in between. When I’ve crumbled he has helped build me back up and he has supported me in every way a person can.
.
The truth is that it is not easy to love somebody who is ill. Lyme patients are often fatigued, depressed, grumpy, emotional and lonely. Our illness is complicated, invisible, expensive to treat and the difficult truth is that chronic Lyme is incurable; only remission is possible and relapses can occur anytime.
.
Despite these challenges his support is unwavering and my gratitude is endless.
.
An often overlooked part of wellness and healing is support. It lifts you when you are down and keeps you fighting. I am grateful for all the people in my life whose support has lifted me and kept me moving forward - I am so much better because of you. If you know somebody in your life who is struggling with their health I’d encourage you to reach out to them and check in. It makes all the difference.
.
Waking up with a grateful heart makes everything about life better, including me. Happy Thanksgiving and be well!
